Most students have had some personal experience with a life preserver. They may have worn one or seen others with a life preserver.

The CObubbles act like mini life preservers. Students understand how life preservers work so it is easier for them to see how the bubbles are like life preservers. 

Once the connection to life preservers has been established it is much easier to begin the discussion about how they work.

Big Idea: The weight of the object, or mass, is only one part of the density equation. Changing volume can change the density.
