Reflection: Writing Across the Disciplines Density of Irregular Objects Day 2: Communicating our Procedures - Section 2: Investigation Preparation & Summary

We will do a lot of writing in my classroom this year. We are using student created journals for recoding our findings, communicating to other scientist and reflecting on our learning. Students commented that they really liked the the organizer. It helped them see clearly the writing expectations for this assignment. I find that offering students extra support during the writing process in science helps them transition from the angst they often feel about writing, especially writing outside the ELA classroom.

For me writing is important as research shows that students are more focused and likely to remember what they have written by hand.

Density of Irregular Objects Day 2: Communicating our Procedures

Unit 1: Density
Lesson 7 of 7

Objective: SWBAT create a formal write-up to communicate their step-by-step procedures for finding the density of irregular objects.

Big Idea: Scientists are writers too. Scientists communicate to one another scientific and/or technical information (e.g. about a proposed object, tool, process, system) in writing and/or through oral presentations.
