Reflection: Student Ownership Sticking Together with Toothpaste Words - Section 2: Experiment One:

Within this portion of the lesson, I want to also focus on the procedures that need to be in place for the experiment and future experiments to be successful. When the student who is in charge of materials returns with them, I want to focus on the placement of the materials and the checking of quantity of them. If students understand that placing things in the center works well for all the students to see, count, touch, and reach. This is important for building successful starts to other experiments. I discuss with the class why I was so impressed to see them double check their materials and put them where everyone could see them. The class then comes up with why this is such a great thing to do. They then own the behavior and are more likely to continue it next time.
