Reflection: Lesson Planning I Know What A Scientist Does - Section 4: Writing the Script and Creating the Presentation


Making a movie is a great motivator for students. I showed my students an example of a show using the Puppet Pals iPad Ap and they were immediately excited. They couldn't wait to get to the making of the movie. They went right to work with their buddies to write the script. They had made pictures of the type of scientist they wanted to be, and added tools and a location to their pictures so they were ready to talk to their partners about their scientists.

The scripts were well written. Every student was able to voice what his/her scientist did for a job and what types of tools he/she might need. 

If we had just done the writing as a paragraph about a scientist, the motivation might not have been so high. I try to plan lessons that will motivate students and keep them involved in the learning process from the beginning to the end of the lesson.

Objective: SWBAT explain what a scientist does by creating a cartoon about a scientist.

Big Idea: Students need to be able to verbalize their understandings. This lesson assesses their understanding of what a scientist does.
