Reflection: Checks for Understanding Recounting Story Elements (Day 1 of 2) - Section 2: Independent Practice


If students were having trouble, I checked for the following: understanding of the assignment, ability to identify story elements, and reading comprehension. It was an opportune time to determine whether or not students understood story elements, such as problem and solution. It also aided in assessing reading comprehension. If students could not state those major parts of the story, they did not understand the story.

Objective: SWBAT identify story elements by completing a graphic organizer and write a summary statement.

Big Idea: Students should be able to use story elements to retell a story they have heard or read by recounting the essential elements of characters, setting, problem, and solution.
