Reflection: Connection to Prior Knowledge Scientists Build Models - Section 3: Warm-up


When I assessed student knowledge of models, most were fixated on mannequins as models for clothing in stores.  They did not have much schema about vehicle models or even globes as models.  So, I went to our school's Science Lab supplies and pulled some examples of models.  Here, my students explore a human body model!

Unit 1: Wiggly Scientists and Wiggly Worms
Lesson 12 of 13

Objective: SWBAT create a model to show that all organisms have external parts that help them survive and grow.

Big Idea: Show me what you know about animals' external parts! Students will use clay to make a 3-D model of an animal and describe how at least one part helps the animal meet its needs.
