Reflection: Flexibility STEM Lab: Basic Needs and Habitats - Section 3: Day 1 Activity

I never know whether to assign 'roles' to my students or not when we are doing this sort of work. On one hand, I want all students to participate fully and so I feel that if I label one person as the 'recorder' then only their work will be on the paper at the end. On the other hand, having 'roles' or 'jobs' is a good way to motivate all students and keep them accountable for helping the team. This time around, I only assigned a recorder, and that was simply so we could read their list during the 'think' part of the cycle. As I walked around and listening in on conversations, I saw one of my students really step up as the leader of her group! She is usually timid and shy, but I discovered today that she really loves animals and wanted to be in charge! Watch her in action in this Collaborative Video!

Flexibility: Did I assign you as the leader!?!?
