Reflection: Unit Exams Assessment - Section 2: The Assessment

This was a pretty assessment to set up because I was pretty certain as to what skills I wanted assess.  The only thing about this assessment that I wish was a little better was that I would have liked to have more assessment tasks.  Common Core is heavily based in tasks and real world connections yet I found it difficult to put a lot of these types of questions into the assessment.

Classifying polygons, for example, is a highly needed skill to develop at the 5th grade level because students will be working with these shapes throughout their future math classes.  They will eventually have to determine the area and volume of these shapes.  So, although the connection to the real world applications is low in this unit assessment, the information tested is vital.
