## Reflection: Developing a Conceptual Understanding Combine More 2D Shapes - Section 1: Activating Strategy

When opening this lesson, I like to make sure that the students are drawing the shapes in the air while singing the song.  First graders always benefit from seeing material presented in many different ways, especially those that make concepts more concrete, so this is a great way to get them to visualize the shape they are singing about in an active, physical way.  It also gets the students moving and motivated before the lesson.  They really enjoy this song!
