Reflection: Checks for Understanding Dictionary Skills - Section 2: Independent Practice


An important thing to watch out for with this assignment is to make sure students place information in the correct location. A few students wrote the definition where the sentence was supposed to go. I had to explain the difference between the definition and the sentence that shows how the word is used. I did that by reiterating the meaning of the word ‘definition.’ It tells what a particular word means. The sentence gives an example of how the word is used; it’s another way to help the reader understand the word.
