Reflection: Developing a Conceptual Understanding Sins of the Father: Identifying Claims and Counterclaims to Develop a Balanced Argument - Section 2: Warmup + Share


Since most of the characters do not have children, and the sins of the fathers quotations  focuses on Troy's father's sins effect on Troy, and Troy's effect on his wife and children, I felt this activity would be more effective if I revised the Warmup to focus more on how Troy was affected by his father's sins, and how Troy's sins affected his children and his family. 

In addition, since can argue that Troy does "play host" to his father's sins whereas Cory "banishes his father's sins" by not doing what his father wanted him to do while Lyons "plays host" to his father's sins by falling into his father's former life as a criminal and a convict, I revised the sheet to explore the character's motivations based on this theme. This task is aligned to RL.9-10.3.

Students will be citing evidence from the text and explaining the text to support their opinion. So, this task is aligned to RL.9-10.2 as well.
