Reflection: Conferencing The Body of the Argument Part 2 - Section 3: Wrap Up

At this point, each year I offer students a few bonus points if they bring back evidence from a parent, grandparent, teacher, any adult that they have approached and asked to listen to and provide feedback on their piece so far.

I ask students to basically ask for a brief conference from someone outside our classroom.  I want them to both have a few notes from this conference and at least one idea about the conclusion that was gained from this conversation.

Note that I never require this because many of my students do not have the means to make this happen.  I offer it as a bonus only.

It is interesting to see and hear the thoughts and ideas shared.  Sometimes the suggestions are very helpful and sometimes they aren't, but honestly thats okay.  The student gets a new audience and learns from the experience of it.
