Reflection: Lesson Planning Da Vinci and the Journal - Section 1: Engage

It is important that I teach this lesson because it is directly based on Washington State Science Standards for the 2-3 grade band.

2-3 APPB - Scientific ideas and discoveries can be applied to solving problems.

2-3 APPC - People in all cultures around the world have always had problems and invented tools and techniques (ways of doing something) to solve problems.

Both of these standards can be difficult to bring to life for a seven-year-old child.  There needs to be a hook, how can you not find a better hook than Leonardo DaVinci?  The man was an renaissance man!!! He is the perfect way to bring these two standards to life, as well as, to inspire the students to see the profound influence his works have on human life then and today.
