Reflection: High Expectations Understanding the Use of Descriptive Writing - Section 3: Shared Writing

I chose to jump write into a shared writing lesson at the beginning of the year to set the tone for my expectations early on. I didn't want to just give students the assignment "write About Your Summer Vacation" because I wanted them to begin early in the year to think like writers. I wanted them to understand that the expectation is that everything they write about in class should be thought about and their should be a process involved. Exposing them to this expectation early on, sets the tone for the rest of the year. Students become naturals at the process and will do it automatically as the year progresses.
