Reflection: Grappling with Complexity Show What You Know About Characters' Motives & Actions - Section 1: A Strong Start

The goal is for students to complete each section of the open response question well, but that takes practice. Today my focus is on the integration of quotes into the written response.  Now, it may seem odd to do this using an assessment, but it came to my attention that the students were struggling with this skill and are feeling some concern about attaining proficient grades. I can ease their anxiety by guiding them through the process of writing the introduction and first section and then grade the work they do on the remaining portions of the assessment. This will also keep me on track with curriculum pacing; however, the most important thing is to never forget to listen to your students’ concerns.
