Reflection: Standardized Tests (PARCC/Smarter Balanced) Timed Writing: The Argumentative Essay - Section 3: Getting Down to Business

In my district, 2013-2014 was our first year to the take the SBAC, and it was a pilot at that.  I created the prompt to emulate the practice tests that were available online during the spring of 2014.  As with all new education initiatives, I am absolutely positive that this format will continue to evolve.

As the test evolves, so will this assignment.  I'm afraid that standardized tests are here to stay.  As teachers, no matter how we feel about state assessments, we are tasked with making sure students are prepared.  I want my students to feel confident when they walk into that testing room.

The best way to instill confidence is to offer students opportunities to practice, and that's what assignments like this one are all about.  I know, like the assessment, this assignment will not stand still!
