Reflection: Grappling with Complexity Metaphorically Speaking - Section 3: Independent Learning


As teachers you are well aware that we need to think on our feet and adapt lessons as we go to ensure students are "getting it". In this lesson I had to make some changes (increase student peer to peer sharing) to help those who were struggling with determining figurative meanings build deeper understanding. In this video I address some of the difficulties I saw students have and some adaptations I made to address each.

Unit 16: Poems Everyone can TRY
Lesson 1 of 12

Objective: SWBAT...use words and pictures to define comparisons made in metaphor phrases.

Big Idea: Words can have more than one meaning depending upon how they are used in sentences. We will define and illustrate metaphor phrases to show the different visual images the words create for readers.
