Reflection: Joy Kenny & the Dragon Day Seven: Chapter 12 & Chapter 13 - Section 1: Welcome to My Lesson


One shift that has happened in my classroom this year is the integration of thematic units across reading and language arts.  The students have really enjoyed these units and connect the big ideas very well.  After we finish a shared reading text, we revisit our essential question for the unit, adding ideas and building schema as we go.  Next year we will be integrating science and social studies within our ELA units.  I think this will further support students to provide lots of connections between the subject areas and allow for a lot of across-the-curriculum work.

Objective: SWBAT read grade level literature, and write an abridged summary for each chapter showing comprehension of the most important events, character, and summary information in a novel. SWBAT create an engaging audio recording and visual display of one of their abridged summaries.
