Reflection: Connection to Prior Knowledge Peanut Butter and Jelly - Section 1: Warm Up

Today's lesson was based heavily on listening skills.  In order to ready my students for the story and writing activity, I wanted to see how much they knew about the subject.  We had a class discussion about peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and then how do we make a sandwich.  I then showed the video of the song with a woman making a real sandwich.  These warm up activities made sure all my ELL students knew what we were going to talk about and introduced vocabulary in a fun way.  Being a fun text made the writing of our sentences easy to do.  My students are more willing to write when the subject is interesting to them.
