Reflection: Adjustments to Practice The Politics of Travels With Charley - Section 1: Nixon Is Sweating

As I expected, not every student was riveted by watching the debate.  Shocker.  I mean, when I was thirteen, I couldn't get enough of Reagan v. Carter . . .

They started out right there with me, but, as my mother once said, "The first five minutes of a blimp ride are exhilarating.  After that . . . well."  It helped to pause and discuss along the way, but there were times throughout the day when I began skipping forward, which sacrifices the continuity and development of what it is I want my students to notice.

It would be perfect to find a spliced/edited version of this debate, one that is about half as long as the clip I used.  It probably exists, and I encourage any teacher considering this lesson to at least search it out before following in my 20+ minute footsteps.
