Reflection: Lesson Planning Native Tribes along Eastern Coast - Section 3: Independent Research and Reading

I have used the Keepers Series written by Joseph Bruchac and Michael J. Caduto over the years.  Mr. Bruchac has written over 120 books and his honors include a Rockefeller Humanities fellowship, a National Endowment for the Arts Writing Fellowship for Poetry, the Knickerbocker Award, the Hope S. Dean Award for Notable Achievement in Children's Literature, the Virginia Hamilton Award, and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Native Writers Circle of the Americas.

The legends are accompanied by classroom activities and more information on the topic.  The books have legends from many North American tribes and are arranged by kinds of stories such as Creation, Celebration, Wind and Weather, Fire, etc...
