The Five Little Ducks is a story all young children enjoy. Use a story like this one to get the kids hooked. They all understand that the baby ducks were disappearing one by one. When they act it out and then you eventually correlate it with a matching number sentence, the kids begin to make the connection between the representation and the action that it represents.
