Reflection: Unit Planning Prelude to Listen To and Follow Directions: Day 1 - Section 3: Guided Practice

This is the first time I tried to infuse a social studies/history type text with this unit.  What I realized, in the middle of this lesson, was that I could have spent a couple of more days using Ben Franklin’s and His First Kite as the literary source for not only teaching speaking and listening skills, as well as other comprehension skills, but to also sneak in a little history/social studies.  Because of my student’s interested in the time period of the text, I have made a note in my personal reflective journal for next year to include more history/social studies themes in my units.
