## Reflection: Apple Counting Orchard - Section 3: Closing

Making the number apple trees was fun, no doubt, but what put this little activity over the proverbial top was that little step of making the trees stand up.  It's all about the little things, you know.

I realize that I could have busted out a worksheet to review numbers, and students may have had a lot more practice writing numbers.  The numbers the kids wrote today had meaning, though, and the students really understood how the number written really represents and quantity.

A year from now, a student will have a strong memory of using that apple-shaped hole punch, making a tree with a number of apples on it, and walking in to see an orchard of counting apple trees.  A worksheet might provide practice, but we made some memories, as well.
