Reflection: Continuous Assessment Preparing A Draft For Peer Evaluation - Section 3: Application

I am guiding the development of student topics and ideas by scanning their work, sharing my observations and making suggestions. I am not offering one-on-one conferencing yet because I am putting some of that work on them tomorrow as students will be engaging in peer evaluation. What I am trying to do today is set the foundation for that editing session. The things I share with the entire class are meant to focus students on the things they will be looking for as they evaluate each other’s work tomorrow. For example, one student is writing about automatic weapons and one point he is making is, “There are always going to be automatic weapons. Why shouldn’t we all have one?” I told this student today to pay close attention before I discussed counterclaims today. Tomorrow, I will be asking his classmates to challenge him and I hope that he finds a way of addressing counterclaims because that statement provides multiple points of disagreement.
