Reflection: Student Self-Assessment Poetry: Revising and editing - Section 2: Mini-Lesson


During Writer’s Workshop, I often ask students to revise their writing using red pen so that I can clearly see that they’ve made changes. Some people feel that red is associated negatively, however, I feel that if it is the student that is using red and not the teacher, it will help them see the importance of the revising process because they will be able to see the changes they made to make their pieces stronger. For this process, I will encourage students to use red pen and will check in with each of them to make sure there are red marks throughout each poem.
