## Reflection: Modeling Single Digit Subtraction Word Problems - Section 1: Activating Strategy

In teaching this lesson, it is important that students be able to analyze the word problem and not look for key words to determine the solution.  For example, I have found that teaching that certain key words, like "more," automatically mean to subtract gets my students into trouble.  Instead, I now try to model how to think aloud and analyze the problem to determine the solution.  I ask questions such as "What do I need to find?" and "What information do I have to help me find it?"
