Reflection: Staircase of Complexity Number the Stars Bio Poem - Section 3: From Another's Point of View


Students often will not think that looking back in the book is a viable option. They need to be taught and reassured that looking back is an option. When students begin working on their poem I encourage them to sue their book, notes, and any other papers that might help them connect to the character. In earlier lessons, I model how I can use my book to help me complete writing responses or fill in facts. They need to learn how look back in the book. They are constantly worried that the looking back into the book is some form of cheating. Students need to realize that going back is one of the best ways to make connections and find a deeper understanding of what they have read.

Unit 18: Number the Stars Literature Unit

Objective: SWBAT write a small bio poem with one of the Number the Stars character's point of view.

Big Idea: Bio Poems are fun and can reveal a lot about a person. Students will learn about and create a bio poem for themselves and then as one of the characters from Number the Stars.
