Reflection: Developing a Conceptual Understanding The Titanic: The Ship Day One - Section 3: Conducting our Research


As students read texts on the topic independently, I encouraged them to add interesting or new facts to this packet. I intentionally didn’t copy the pages back to back in order to allow extra space for additional research. This made the packets rather large, but was worth it in the long run. During reading workshop each day, students would often share facts they gleaned from their texts and added to their research packets. It was a great way to incorporate independent learning with group work.

The Titanic: The Ship Day One

Unit 9: The Titanic
Lesson 2 of 26

Objective: SWBAT conduct research around a given focus, record specific notes, and demonstrate understanding through a variety of questions.

Big Idea: Today's focus is learning details about the construction of the ship itself. Through the use of a teacher created website, students read preselected passages about the ship and record pertinent facts.
