Reflection: Performance Tasks Promoting our Messages: Social Commentary Presentations - Section 2: Social Commentary Presentations


I wanted to reflect a little on how I graded each of the three samples that are showcased here. As you can tell, each kid's interpretation of the assignment was pretty different, so that makes my job harder to do. I want to make sure I am being objective as I grade projects like these and not get caught up in pretty presentation. 

To do this, my focus was on how well each project presented a message within the chosen genre.

For example, project one was really entertaining, but the message was a little lost in the genre because it was hard for students to track with the lyrics. Part of this was the production value that was unavoidably weaker in a classroom setting, but to really make sure that their social commentary was heard, it would have been good to provide copies of the lyrics for their audience, an oversight that lost them a few (very minimal) points.

Projects two and three did a much better job of matching their message to their audience and were both pretty clear in their delivery. I appreciated project three specifically because that student had expressed concern with making the visual side of his presentation strong enough to convey his message. I think he did a great job with both.

Lesson 9 of 9

Objective: SWBAT present information such that listeners can follow the line of reasoning by sharing the message and product of their final social commentary.

Big Idea: Today students will engage as listeners and presenters as we experience the wide variety of social commentaries created for our class.
