Reflection: Grappling with Complexity 'Prezi'nt Images About Citizenship - Section 4: Students Demonstrate Their Skills

As students begin to look at ideas and think about how they are related, it may be necessary to support them in choosing a good format to organize their ideas. The real purpose of the lesson is to help them learn that you can organize images to 'cut down' on the reading and show ideas in a different way. Looking at how kids do this will really give you a true formative assessment of what they know.

This kind of organization, whether on a Prezi, note-taking lesson, or other format will get them ready for the upper grades. You could group the templates into 4 categories: all about templates, cause/effect templates, compare/contrast templates, and timeline templates. Then, when you read texts, you can think aloud about which type of template matches the text’s ideas.

This is an example of how I guided some kids to choose the right image to show that they understood not only what the ideas mean but how they can be organized.
