Reflection: Staircase of Complexity Archaic Archives - Section 3: Research Questions


I really enjoy using picture books to teach with. Almost every reading lesson or mini lesson I teach I try to use a picture book. When I look for picture books, I read the reviews of the latest books or I do endless searches for pictures book that are a related to a specific reading strategy. In many cases one picture book can be used to teach multiple strategies. In this lesson, I looked for a particular picture book that was nonfiction and had a question and answer format.

Unit 17: Researching Basics
Lesson 9 of 10

Objective: SWBAT read, write, and collaborate with peers about an Archaic Native American group to have better understanding of the text that they can then share with the class.

Big Idea: To read a complex text and understand multiple Native American groups is hard. Students have a hard time remembering all of the facts that are within the text. In this lesson, students will work in small groups to answer text embedded questions.
