Reflection: Lesson Planning The Titanic: The Ship Day Two - Section 2: Setting a Purpose


I have a problem with expecting too much sometimes. I tend to be the kind of teacher who over plans and tries to cram way too much into one day. I guess this is better than not planning enough.

When I initially created the website, I included three separate links to the cabin information on the main “The Ship” page. When my students tried to digest this information, it was just way too much. I included too many links to pages that had too much information. While I want my students challenged, I don’t want them overwhelmed. So I did some revising. The link that is listed in this lesson provides a short synopsis of what I learned about the three cabin types from online sources. It’s a great resource for those students who are reading at grade level or below. If your students are more advanced – or if you have more time to spend on today’s lessons – then I would suggest using the original links here

Objective: SWBAT conduct research around a given focus, record specific notes, and demonstrate understanding through a variety of questions.

Big Idea: Today's focus is learning about the ship's interior. Through the use of a teacher created website, students read preselected passages about the accommodations aboard the Titanic and record pertinent facts.
