Reflection: Advanced Students 10 more or less on a 120 chart - Section 2: Whole Group Interaction

I feel like I spend a lot of time providing support to my lower students who are struggling in math and not really challenging my higher students. I decided to challenge my higher students during today's whole group introduction and give them some more challenging questions related to adding and subtracting tens. I used numbers that were higher than 120 and really forced them to solve mentally.

10 more or less on a 120 chart

Unit 10: Place Value
Lesson 15 of 16

Objective: SWBAT mentally find 10 more or 10 less than a given two-digit number.

Big Idea: Before First Graders are able to solve mentally, they must develop a concrete understanding of 10 less or 10 more than a given two-digit number. This lesson provides my students an opportunity to transition to solving mentally.
