Reflection: Standardized Tests (PARCC/Smarter Balanced) Day 2 - Rude Giants - Section 2: Using Evidence to Describe What Beatrix Has Taught the Giants So Far - Guided Practice


When I teach, I don't always think of the PARCC assessment that the students will take in future years.  I do know that I have a pivotal role in helping with their success on this test, though.  We've never seen the PARCC, however I know that the students will need to be able to respond to questions using evidence from the text.  We practice this daily in our reading units.  It has been common practice for my students to constantly respond to our reading using text evidence.  Not only does this strengthen their comprehension skills, but it also helps their writing skills.  They are able to formulate an opinion based on evidence from the text.  Though I haven't seen the PARCC assessment yet, I know I have set a strong foundation in which the students can build on in order to perform well on PARCC.

Objective: SWBAT use illustrations and details in a story to describe its characters, setting, or events.

Big Idea: Today we will continue to see what Beatrix the Butter Maid has to teach our rude giants.
