Reflection: Developing a Conceptual Understanding Digging Deeper Into the Central Idea - Section 2: Mini Lesson

I chose to use a movie first instead of a printed passage because I wanted to scaffold students into this process. Earlier in the unit as we focused on siting text evidence, students moved into this task gradually giving them multiple ways and avenues to practice it. I wanted students to have several opportunities to do this so that they begin to feel more comfortable with it as time goes. This also helps it become something they naturally or automatically do every time they read.
