## Reflection: Standards Alignment Multiplying Fractions by Whole Numbers Pretest - Section 2: The Pretest

To align this module correctly to standards, I needed to rewrite this test so that there was no focus on simplifying to lowest terms included. For some reason, we had focused on that last year and not the standard that demands that we make sure students understand that 3 x 3/4 is the same thing as 9 x 1/4. Also, we did not focus on drawing fractional models that show mutliplication. The conceptual ladder that is taking place became very real this year to me as I tore apart each standard while writing for BL. I thought I understood completely what was going on last year and thought this test was completely aligned. But when I examined it, I realized that things were missing and too many other things were included that were part of the Wisconsin State Standards. We hadn't let go completely yet! Well, now we have! This is all part of the transition and understanding of how CCSS build upon one another and the obligation I have as a teacher to make sure that is happening!

The Educreations Video reflects on the test design and how two students performed.
