Reflection: Developing a Conceptual Understanding Metaphor- "Life Ain't No Crystal Stair" - Section 1: Mini-Lesson

I showed the video to build a bit of background knowledge about Langston Hughes.   My purpose was to provide information so that my students could make connections between the historical fiction reading they did around slavery and the civil war and their understanding of Martin Luther King and the civil rights movement.  Langston Hughes is a American writer who fell between these two periods. As my students  transition into middle school and high school,  I'm surethey will have the opportunity to study Langston Hughes again.
