Reflection: Student Ownership An Introduction to A Lesson Before Dying - Section 3: The Power of a Word

While this lesson went as planned in most sections, my last section of American Literature really got into the discussion over the power of words, so much so that I couldn't cut them off. Throughout the year, they had shown keen interest in debate of any subject, and this proved no different. I allowed them to continue into what would have been our reading time because they were so enthused and still bringing up new points. Everything still worked out; they were so excited about the discussion that they actually read the first chapter as homework to find out how it was connected.
