Reflection: Relevance What's so Great About Our New Government? - Section 4: Closing the Loop

Lets face it, our students live in a visual world filled with technology and fast pace graphics. While this video isn't super fast, it does establish a kid-friendly definition of the basic overview of the Articles of Confederation. The downfalls of the Articles of Confederation are compared to splitting a pizza and all the potential hassle involved in sharing desires and costs. My students got this and could share back to me after the video was done what it stated  - that's learning!

I would recommend showing it near the end of the lesson because it needs to be supported by discussions and evaluations before the language and terminology becomes familiar. I also love that its only 5 minutes long which fits into my time frame for the lesson.

A last added benefit is it shows my students a variety of ways that videos can be created to be interactive with the audience.

What's so Great About Our New Government?

Unit 13: Creating our Government Through Blood, Sweat and Fears
Lesson 2 of 6

Objective: SWBAT...understand why we needed to change the Articles of Confederation to the Constitution to strengthen our government.

Big Idea: When we make rules for many different people we need to make sure that all voices are heard and that all people feel protected. Colonists faced this same problem and decided to make changes to better address the needs of the new citizens of America.
