Reflection: Rigor Cornerstone Defending Literary Arguments - Section 2: Evaluating Evidence to Support a Claim


Rather than spending class time looking for concrete evidence, I compiled a list of pieces of evidence.  I see compiling the lists the same way I see reference sheets.  Some might claim that compiling the lists or reference sheets means that you're doing the work for students.  However, this is a time-consuming, tedious activity that doesn't give a lot of payback for rigor for the time it takes up. 

There are certainly other times when I give students the task of searching through the text to locate specific pieces of evidence.  In fact, we did that just yesterday when students answered questions relating to Chapters 7, 8, and 9. 

Therefore, I feel comfortable giving students the resource so they can focus on evaluating and debating.
