Reflection: Data Analysis Rotten Milk! Informative Writing - Section 5: Informative Essay Composition


The Fact vs. Opinion lessons seemed to work.  The students were able to report information they read in the article and for the most part, kept out their opinions.  I did have a couple of students who still included their opinions in their essays.  However, when I held the mini conferences with them, they were able to see that they had included opinion and omitted the opinions from the final typed copy.

Objective: SWBAT write an informative essay without expressing opinion within the essay.

Big Idea: Students often insert opinion into informative writing. Today we will write about a topic that students will have an opinion about. Our goal today is to help students keep opinions out of informational writing.
