Reflection: Staircase of Complexity What Should Our Response Have Been: WWII Seminar Prep (Day 2 of 2) - Section 4: Independent Research

Today was sort of an adventure with computers. I was really surprised at how difficult it seemed to be for my students to do simple functions like cutting and pasting. I was particularly surprised given how often we have used the Chromebooks. But I digress...

I think the biggest challenge of today was the fact that the students had to multi-task. They had to think about researching, gathering evidence AND getting the computers to work as tools for all these tasks. Unfortunately, the computers proved to be a barrier to getting started, which took away from their research time.

When they finally did get to the research part of the process, they did a great job. There were great questions asked, fabulous resources found and the kids seemed truly engaged in their ideas. I am excited for the seminar on Thursday so I can hear how they synthesize all of this research together with their textual support.
