Reflection: Checks for Understanding Analyzing the Author - Section 2: Number the Stars Purpose and Prediction

The writing response is a way for me to check their understanding of supporting details or evidence. I will be reviewing how they chose their details and their relationship to their thinking. I am also checking to see how well they understand author's purpose.

Instead of a rubric, I am checking to see that the evidence they chose came from the book and match their thinking. This process should reflect their knowledge giving a clear answer and the backing it up with details. For students with special needs, I would have them write the author's purpose and then include one to two details from the story that support it. If I want to check their understanding further, I will conference with them to have them add details.
