Reflection: Developing a Conceptual Understanding Who is August Wilson? Finding the Main Ideas and Supporting Details in an Obituary Using Chunking - Section 6: Shared Reading and Writing: Using THIEVES to Chunk Text

Why I should have kept the focus on informational text!

Looking at the student samples for the Warmup today made it clear to me that the students were organically creating informational texts as their writing products using the prereading strategy, THIEVES. Therefore, it was somewhat difficult for them to understand my quest to produce an objective summary.

Though I thought this was a great opportunity to introduce an important skill, main idea and supporting details, it was not the appropriate time to create a formative assessment surrounding this skill.
