Reflection: Discourse and Questioning What is an Endangered Animal? - Section 2: Guided/Independent Practice


I allowed the students work more independently with this text, so was a little nervous when they went to discuss.  Would they be discussing the right content?  Would they just confuse their partners?  I kept finding myself butting into the conversations and wanting to take control and guide them.  Once I recognized that I was doing this, I backed off and just listened. 

I was very pleased to see the students really were able to guide the discussion and use their understanding of the text to discuss.  Students were explaining their thoughts asking for clarification on their peers' thoughts.  I was excited to see that they were doing so well, without me!
