Reflection: Safety Creating a Character Day 5 - Section 4: Sharing our Work

I always try to make sharing an enjoyable and stress free time. I remember the days when I had to share as a kid and dreaded it with a passion! I remember the feeling of having 25 pairs of eyes staring at me while I nervously read my work. And while there’s a time and place for that type of sharing, I don’t feel it’s necessary each and every time we complete a piece.  The method of sharing I use depends on the length of the piece to be shared and the amount of time I have to devote in class. As I stated in the previous few lessons, I did not have as much time as previously planned for this writing project. So when planning this share, I needed to find a way to get as many reads in as possible while keeping the atmosphere light and enjoyable. Students seemed to enjoy the quick shares even though not everyone was able to share each round. They know that they will have multiple opportunities next week on their own to read the pieces they didn’t get to hear today.
