Reflection: ELL Students Descriptive Words = Images in the Mind - Section 2: Independent Work and Small Group Work

I gathered realia to introduce students to the words: velveteen, satchel, clasp, valise, bud

I didn't make word cards, but next time I will have the students quickly write the new vocab on strips of paper or index cards.  Then they could have practiced with each other reading the word card and giving another meaning for the new word before they read the poem to each other.

I found out that other words were problematic for the students.  These included:

pale, cream perched, tip, bare branch.

It was easy for me to demonstrate how the bud is perched on the tip of the bare branch using the spring twigs I had brought in.

I explained that cream is like milk and asked what color is milk?  I told the students that pale means light in color.
