Reflection: Advanced Students Math Centers - Introducing Addition - Section 4: Practice

The students who were working at the two addition centers were experiencing a lot of difficulty.  We are just starting the addition unit, so I knew that these centers would difficult for the first couple of days.  I have students grouped at tables in mixed ability groups, and this was helpful.  My advanced students at each table were very helpful in guiding their peers through the centers.

I think that in future, I will not put these centers out so early.  I might put centers that we have done previously in for first few days as a review and then add these addition centers in after we have done addition for a couple of days.

Lesson 1 of 21

Objective: Students will be able to independently practice graphing, teen numbers, comparing weight and addition.

Big Idea: In order to pull small groups during math instruction, the rest of the students need engaging activities that they can complete independently. These centers allow students to practice a variety of math skills including addition.
