Reflection: Lesson Planning Mars One Close Read - Key Ideas and Details - Section 3: Close Read

When planning a close read, one thing to remember is that the text must be complex enough for the students to be able to dig deep into the morning in the heart of the text. Often, when the text is complex, the students find it difficult to stay in the struggle and try to find meaning in that complex text. I have found that the interest level for students is a major factor. If the students have a high level of interest for the topic, they are more likely to have the motivation to stay in the struggle. This Mars One topic has motivated every student in my entire classroom. Even when struggling readers are enthusiastic about the topic and giving it everything they have.
